Game area

A wooden keno machine in wine red and gold, trimmed with ruby hearts, in a chandelier-lit casino room with red curtains. On top of it sits a glass globe full of colorful numbered balls swirling in the air, and one ball rises up the clear tube; two more balls glow in midair, one on each side of the machine. Its screen shows a number board with a few numbers lit in gold. On the right, the Queen of Hearts, in a crown and white-and-gold armor, smiles and points at the globe.

About Keno

This is the video keno you find in casinos, paytable and all, set up in the Queen of Hearts' Sapphire Room. The board has all 80 numbers: you mark 2 to 10, choose your bet and play. The glass globe mixes the 80 balls with air and draws 20, one at a time and always at the same pace: each ball rises through the tube, comes forward for a close-up and lights up its number on the board. Each of your numbers that comes up is a hit, and the paytable alongside shows what each number of hits pays for your bet. You start with $1,000 in play money and bet $1 to $100 per game; the top prize is 10,000 times your bet, for hitting 8 of 8, 9 of 9 or 10 of 10. QUICK PICK marks numbers at random, as many as you choose, from 2 to 10. The globe does the drawing: nobody picks the balls, and your numbers play no part in the draw. CASH OUT ends the night whenever you want and posts your balance to the TOP 5 leaderboard. It's a demo-mode game made purely for entertainment: none of the amounts are real, and every win or loss is fictional.

In Selminha's words

“Keno is the most laid-back game in the casino: you pick your numbers and watch the draw, rooting for every ball. I wanted that whole moment on screen: a glass globe with all 80 balls flying through the air, each ball rising through the tube and coming forward for a close-up at a steady pace, and the board lighting up number by number. The draw isn't rigged: the air in the globe decides. And for anyone who has never played, the paytable shows what each hit pays before you bet, and QUICK PICK marks the numbers for you.”

How to play Keno and what each hit pays

  1. Tap or click 2 to 10 numbers on the board to mark them. Tap or click a number again to unmark it.
  2. Or use QUICK PICK: with the − and + next to it, choose how many numbers it marks, from 2 to 10, and it picks them for you at random. CLEAR unmarks everything.
  3. Set your bet with the − and + on the tray and press PLAY: the bet comes out of your balance and the globe draws 20 balls, one at a time.
  4. Each number drawn lights up on the board. Every marked number that comes up is a HIT, and the paytable shows what each number of hits pays.
  5. Your numbers stay marked after the draw, so you can PLAY them again right away. When the next hit is worth 100 times your bet or more, the 1 MORE HIT alert pops up.
  6. The "?" at the top opens HOW TO PLAY. CASH OUT ends the night and posts your balance to the TOP 5 leaderboard.

The rules on this machine

Casino video keno
There are 80 numbers, and 20 are drawn each game, with no repeats. You mark 2 to 10, and your payout depends only on how many of them come up. The paytable comes from a casino keno machine and is one of the most generous out there.
The bet
$1 to $100 per game: 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100. The night starts with $1,000 in play money.
The top prize
10,000 times your bet, for hitting 8 of 8, 9 of 9 or 10 of 10.
Getting your bet back isn't winning
With 7 numbers and 3 hits, or with 9 numbers and 4 hits, the machine just gives your bet back.

Controls on phone and computer

Computer
Tap or click numbers on the board to mark them · SPACE starts the draw · − and + change the bet · ESC pauses · M turns the sound on and off · on a phone, two fingers zoom in on the machine
Touch
On a phone, it's played upright in full screen: the globe and the 80-number board up top, the paytable right below them and the tray with the buttons near your thumb; two fingers zoom in on the machine for a close look at any number. On a tablet the machine adapts to the way you hold it and never asks you to rotate; on a computer it's played in landscape mode, with the globe, the board and the paytable side by side.

A fair draw

The globe decides
Air mixes the 80 balls inside the glass globe, and each time, the ball that enters the tube is the one drawn. Nobody picks the balls, and your numbers play no part in the draw.
Always the same pace
The 20 balls come out a little more than a second apart, from first to last, and each one is shown in close-up for half a second before the next one.
Tested over 5,000 draws
In testing, the globe ran 5,000 draws in a row: each of the 80 numbers came up about equally often, and all 100,000 balls kept the same pace.

Your night at the machine

Balance
You start with $1,000 in play money. The tray shows your BALANCE, your BET and the WIN for each game.
