In every Selminha game: P pauses · M sound · SPACE or tap to startAbout Color by Number
The Grayling drifted through the Rainbow Studio and washed the color out of Lia's drawings. To bring it back, every area on the page has a number, and every number has its own paint pot. Tap a pot and its areas light up so they're easy to find. Tap one of them and the paint fills the area, starting right where your finger is; you can also slide your finger across several at once. An area with another number won't take the paint: it flashes, and Scribble, the crayon puppy, tells you which pot to pick. When a color is done, its pot gets a ✓ and the next one is picked for you. Once the whole page is painted, the picture comes to life and Lia claps. There are ten pages, from a fish, a sun, a balloon, a cake and Granny Quelonia all the way to Lia herself; finish one without tapping a single wrong area for 3 stars.
In Selminha's words
“Color by number is that calm, slow kind of fun where you go number by number until the whole picture shows up. I wanted that in Backyard Town, with the paint filling each area from your fingertip, Scribble lending a hand and the picture coming to life at the end.”
How to play Color by Number and tips for earning 3 stars
- Tap or click a paint pot: the areas with its number light up. Tap or click one of them and it fills with paint. You can also slide your finger (or drag the mouse) across several areas with the same number.
- An area with another number won't take the paint: it flashes, and Scribble tells you which pot to pick. No wrong areas: 3 stars; up to 3 mistakes: 2; more than that: 1.
- When a color is done, its pot gets a ✓ and the next pot is picked for you. The tiniest bits come already painted.
- Small area? Tap near it: your finger grabs the closest area for the pot you picked. If you like, use two fingers to zoom in on the page.
- On a computer, the arrow keys or W A S D move between areas, Enter or Space paint, and the keys 1 to 8 (or Q and E) switch pots. On a controller: D-pad to pick, A to paint, LB and RB to switch pots.
The rules
- The numbers
- Every area has a number, and every number has its own paint pot. The areas for the pot you pick light up.
- A wrong area
- An area with another number won't take the paint: it flashes, and Scribble tells you which pot to pick. It counts against the page's stars.
- A finished color
- When every area with a number is painted, its pot gets a ✓ and the next one is picked for you.
- A finished page
- When the last area is painted, the picture comes to life: it wiggles, sparkles fly and Lia claps.
- Restart
- RESTART in the pause menu wipes the page clean.
- Saved game
- The game remembers your page and the areas you already painted. When you come back, you can pick up where you left off or start over.
The ten pages
- The pictures
- A fish (8 areas, 5 colors), Scribble (8 areas, 5 colors), a sun (15 areas, 3 colors), a balloon (9 areas, 7 colors), a cake (12 areas, 8 colors), a little house (15 areas, 8 colors), a toy car (12 areas, 8 colors), Granny Quelonia (22 areas, 4 colors), a butterfly (30 areas, 7 colors) and Lia (28 areas, 6 colors).
- Made for fingers
- The areas are big. Near a small one, your tap grabs the closest area for the pot you picked, and the tiniest bits come already painted.
